Why Start Organic Food Shopping

If you ever open your refrigerator and wonder how to eat more healthfully, many possibilities come to mind, one of the first being organic food shopping. Organic food shopping will promote safer ways of doing agriculture and ensures that your family eats healthier. Consider the benefits of organic food shopping for your health and within your community.

What is Organic Food

What does a food being labeled organic mean? At the most basic level, organic foods are foods that have been grown in line with certain production standards. They are pesticide free, they have only been fertilized with natural fertilizers and no raw sewage, also they have not been exposed to any food additives.

A majority of countries block farmers from using the term “organic” on their produce if it has been modified genetically. Neither antibiotic medications nor growth hormones are given to animals that are an organic source of meat.

Organic food shopping is the way to go if you are not going to grow your own, but most of it is too expensive for most people to go organic all the way.

Buying Organic Food Is Safer

Organic milk is definitely more expensive. One of the things that surprises me is how many people worry about buying organic this and that, but don’t breastfeed their kids. The milk from cows that has been treated with bovine growth hormone may heighten some cancer risks.

Organic Is Natural

Most grocery stores carry at least one brand of organic milk, if not more. When you choose to do organic food shopping you will find that milk, cheese, eggs, chicken, ketchup, veggies, fruits, are so much more flavorful than brands that are non-organic. Plus I don’t want my kids eating the hormones, pesticides or fertilizers that can be in or on the non-organic foods.

Where Can I Find Organic Food?

You might ask yourself is there a local resource where I can find organic foods? Your local grocery is the best place to find organic foods for your family. There you’ll find a segment on organic foods. Two options for taking advantage of the benefits of organic foods are to become a member in a locally supported agricultural project which would give you a share of local farm, or you shopping at your local co-op. A good place to visit to during the summertime, is a farmer’s market in your town.

Live A Healthy Organic Life

Organic foods provide many opportunities for you to eat better. Make sure you take advantage of all options that are available within your local area.
