Fruit club
It doesn’t matter what the occasion is, whether the fruit of the month club is for you or someone else, it can be the perfect gift. One of the best benefits in joining a fruit of the month club is that you get the freshest fruit at the time of harvest. This means that you are not getting fruit that’s been kept in storage for long periods then shipped to a store. In a store how many people handle the fruits before you decide to buy it. You get home with what you think is going to be a great tasting piece of fruit because it looks good. One bite and you’ll soon be disappointed because the flavor just isn’t there. When you go shopping at your local supermarket you will find that they have apples all year long. Are apples ready to be harvested all year? Only the best fruits are selected for fruit of the month. Each and every month you receive a different fruit to enjoy.
A fruit of the month club membership makes a wonderful gift. Think of the vegetarian on the list of people to purchase gifts for. You don’t know about the clothes or other items that they would want to receive. Fruits make a great gift. Some companies give fruit of the month club memberships to important people as a gift. It makes a great marketing ploy because the recipients are reminded of your company year round. Fruit baskets have been given as gifts for some years.
There are many different fruit of the month clubs. Some offer exotic fruits only, while others may offer fruits that you are most familiar with. There’s a fruit club that offers tips and recipes for different types of fruit. They may also have other gifts available such as a single basket of fruit that can be sent to whomever you wish. Do not forget those items that most fruit of the month clubs have such as jams, jellies, dried fruit and other goodies. There are fruit of the month clubs for different prices and different membership lengths. Memberships do not have to be for a full year with some of the clubs that are available. They have clubs that offer three month, six month or twelve month program.
Would You Survive in the Wild?
Do you have any bushcraft skills? If you were to become lost in the wild do you have the skills necessary to erect a shelter, start a fire, locate some water and find some nutritious food? And would you be able to recognise what is safe to eat?
Living, as we do, in our supermarket served modern world many people have lost touch with the sources of their food. Some children grow up in cities with hardly any idea of where vegetables come from or, in some cases, where certain meats come from. I once taught a young guy who didn’t know that burgers were made from beef. I don’t know what he thought they were made out of.
There are no convenience stores or all night supermarkets in the wilderness. You really need to be able to identify what is safe to eat and what is potentially harmful. If you are a fan of the Bear Grylls survival television programs you will be familiar with how he makes a point of catching and eating whatever is available wherever he finds himself. Something you may have noticed is that Bear is never without his bushcraft knife, an essential survival tool.
Wild berries can be a valuable form of food. Our ancient ancestors would have gathered nuts, berries and grain when in season with expert knowledge regarding what is good and safe to eat. But there are many berries which can be deadly poisonous.
Yew berries are very poisonous causing many poisonings every year. The berries are scarlet in colour and about 8 to 10mm in diameter. The berries look deceptively appetising which has resulted in many young children being taken to the emergency room.
Another berry that results in many visits to the hospital emergency room each year is Deadly Nightshade. The clue is in the name. Also known as Belladonna this plant also produces berries in September and they taste quite sweet, making them attractive to young children.
Insects can be a valuable source of energy, but many find the thought of eating them distasteful. Most insects are actually edible, but some taste better than others. Most insects are actually very high in protein but low in fat.Crickets, grasshoppers, mealworms and wood grubs are all a safe bet. Most taste better after cooking and can even be ground up into an insect flour that can be added to a basic bread mix.
Birds, rabbits and other small animals are all generally good to eat, but not so easy to catch. This especially true if you are lost in the wild without any form of weapon. Without a weapon a trap is probably your best option for catching a bird or rabbit.
You may have read this thinking that you will never be lost in the wild, so desperately hungry that you would eat your own socks. But it really could happen to you. All you need to do is stray from a main pathway through a forest and you can quickly become disoriented and be unable to find your way back to the path. That’s when you’ll wish you’d paid more attention to Ray Mears Extreme Survival.
Jamie Oliver Criticised Over His Spelling
The ‘Naked Chef’ was left embarrassed and frustrated yesterday at a fellow blogger who quite horribly pointed out four mistakes in Jamie Oliver’s spelling. Jamie had left a message on the popular micro-blogging site, Twitter and left the following message, “anouther true story a massive amount of uk farmers use human waist as fertiliser on there land! Do any other countrys at all do this? Is this what people are used to.”
The blogger left a comment on Jamie’s post saying, “Not being funny fella but 4 spelling mistakes? You’re influencing a generation of young kids, you owe it them to be correct. Agree?”
The Chef who has always been seen to give support to dyslexia programs around the country, replied: “Get lost you idiot im dyslexic and i cant spell so stick that in your pipe! its better than being smug.”
Oliver left school with no qualifications before gaining a place at Westminster Catering College where he grew his talent and passion for cooking. Little did Jamie know but he was about to be a part of an exclusive group of caterers who have a massive influence on the countries cuisine and eating habits. Jamie Oliver has single handily changed the school dinner menu for younger kids encouraging them to eat more healthy.
After the Westminister Catering College he worked as pastry chef at Antonio Carluccio’s restaurant in London’s Neal Street and went on to secure a place as a sous-chef at another top London restaurant, the River Cafe where he was discovered by a BBC documentary team. He then spent some time with a few friends specialising in their own private caterers business before fully committing himself to the ‘Naked Chef’ project on the BBC.
Oliver has spoken out about his problems with dyslexia in the past and has since regretted leaving school with no qualifications at all.
Smoking Wrecks the Taste of Food, Drink and Your Health…
It has long been suspected that smoking and gum disease are interrelated. Thanks to recent studies, that link has been proven. We have all long known that smoking is dangerous to your health. It can cause heart disease, including heart attacks. It may lead to strokes and aneurysm. Naturally it could lead to lung and throat cancer, not to mention many others. Your breath smells, your teeth get stained, and respiratory problems and infections are practically a given. As it turns out, smoking can negatively affect your oral health as well.
Smoking is one of the main risk factors associated with gingivitis. This because smoking practically opens wide the door for bacteria to flock into your mouth. Bacteria is what ultimately causes gingival diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis. However, that is not the only reason smoking can lead to gum disease.
Both the smoke which comes from the tobacco and the nicotine in cigarettes can make your blood vessels constrict. That makes it harder and difficult for nutrients and oxygen to get to parts of your body – including your gums and gum tissue.
Smoking is not the only thing which causes this to happen. Chewing tobacco can as well. Further, they can both make it more difficult for your body to adequately fight off infections. Meaning, it cannot repel the infection which causes gingivitis. If you are a smoker, it may even be more difficult for your body to respond to the proper treatment methods for gm disease.
How can you, as a smoker, decrease your chances for getting gum disease? Well, naturally, you have got to stop smoking. Think of all the aspects of your health smoking will negatively affect? You also want to do your part by rigorously taking care of your teeth. Brushing, flossing, and regular checkups are important.
Bubba Know Shrimp
Yes, it’s a ‘Forrest Gump’ reference and it should be predicted any time shrimp is discussed for the subsequent 20 years. “Bubba Gump” shrimp is how Forrest made his millions in the Hollywood movie. But, the picture will always be remembered for the amazing number of way an individual can make shrimp. As Bubba would say, “There’s barbecue shrimp, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp soup, fried shrimp….the list is sort of unending. And while there are certainly a giant number of ways to cook shrimp, there’s really a fair amount of confusion as to what precisely a shrimp actually is. Perhaps Bubba wasn’t really cooking shrimp?
In Britain and a number of other places, what would be called shrimp in the U. S. is basically called as prawn. If you were to look at a prawn and a shrimp side by side, it would be very unlikely to distinguish which was which. Technically speaking, however, a prawn really isn’t a shrimp.
To the naked eye, the two may appear matching but they’re biologically different. On the abdomen of a shrimp or prawn are flaps. Without going into too much detail and causing everybody to go running for a Biology book, let’s just say that the there’s a very subtle difference difference between the first abdomen flap on a shrimp and a prawn. But basically, these are the same creature.
As far as the Americans are concerned, a shrimp is any crustacean that is a part of the Natantia family of crustaceans. It does not matter how big the shrimp is or where it is found-so long as it’s a Nantantia crustacean-it’s a shrimp! However, there’s a rather peculiar phenomenon among American shrimp that does have to do with size.
Were Bubba to have grown up on the West Coast of the US, he definitely would not have seen much potential in the shrimp-for eating, let alone making any money! The reason is because the classic size of a shrimp found of the West Coast is about in. in length. For some reason, the Pacific Ocean just is not a great place for jumbo shrimp to grow. But somewhere else, it is nothing for shrimp to be 12 inches in length or more.
Shrimp, like any species, comes in a wide assortment of variety. There are rock, brine, royal red, white, brown, and even pink shrimp to choose from. Each offers a unique flavor and consistency but all are absolutely delicious when prepared properly. And, Bubba was correct-you can make shrimp just about any way your imagination will let you! So whether you want to call it prawn or just plain old shrimp-the truth is that it tastes great no matter how you make it!.

Dieting and Portion Sizes
When dieting, so many fail to pay attention to the fact that selecting the right food to eat is not the only thing that you have to worry about. Eating too much of the right stuff will prevent you from losing weight, and might lead you to believe that there is no diet out there that works for you.
When you select healthy foods, you are half way to where you want to be, but you also have to remember that the food portion sizes are just as important as the food itself. That, along with exercise, will truly be the key to shedding those excess pounds.
In fact, if you talk with a doctor they may tell you that food portion sizes are the biggest problems that face dieters.
When you eat out, you may find healthy options on the menu, and those are a great idea when ordering. However, what you may not realize is that the food portion sizes are often way too big, and as a result you are actually packing on more calories than you think. In some cases a smaller portion size of a less healthy menu item would actually have been better for you.
You also have to watch your foods portion sizes when eating lower fat foods. Many people think that because the food is lower in calories that they can eat more. This happens a lot with things like reduced calorie ice creams, cookies or gluten-free cooking.
If you wish to include items like these in your diet just be mindful of the portion size and read the information on the side of the package carefully so that you are aware how much you are actually consuming in terms of calories. If you can’t keep your sizes to the recommended quantities perhaps you should consider skipping them all together.
