It is hard to say that menu covers can alter the way you do business and the dishes that get ordered. However, the simplest of mistakes can impact how well your restaurant does and what food items are appealing. Here are five mistakes you want to avoid when designing covers for your menu.

1. Oversized cover
One of the worst things you can do when designing menu covers for your restaurant is order covers that are oversized. Take into account the size of your tables and how much room people will have when looking over the menu. The last thing you want is for visitors to struggle looking over the menu. The easier you can make it on them ordering, the better their overall experience will be.

2. Too small of print
In addition to having an oversized menu, you certainly want to avoid creating print that is too small to read. If you are having difficulty printing your entire menu, do not worry about including an extra page or two. You are better off increasing the font size as well as the page numbers so people can easily read what each dish has to offer.

3. Generic clip art
The point of designing menu covers is to create a sense of appeal with your restaurant. It is one of the first things visitors are going to see before they get to the actual menu. For this reason, try to stay away from generic clip art even though it is much cheaper. You are better off paying a bit more and having professional photographs taken of popular dishes or new items on the menu to place on the cover.

4. Obsolete design
No matter what type of industry you are in, it is imperative you stay fresh and original. The same holds true when designing menu covers. Having an obsolete design will only confuse visitors and turn them off for what they are about to see. Keep their emotions high with an appealing design that suits the restaurant.

5. Does not match the theme
The last thing you want to do with your covers is fade away from the overall theme of the restaurant. Try to stay as close as possible to the theme in regards to the color scheme, pattern, logo, and typography. Every little detail can make a difference and creating covers that match the theme will bring everything together. You want everything to come together to create a true experience for your guests from the food to the environment to the employees to the menu covers.
